Video download from dropbox wont play
I have a video downloaded from dropbox, but when i play it, it only shows the dropbox icon and no sound. This video was sent to me by somebody else, the file size indicates there is something there, but nothing plays. Any idea? Can this video be recovered? If so, how?
Thanks

Hi Scottpbrown, thanks for bringing this to our attention.
Could you try using a different media player on your machine to preview the file itself?
Does the file play normally on the Dropbox site from the link you got originally?
Keep me updated with any progress!

I've tried the file on several different media players and nothing works, I've tried uploading back into dropbox and still nothing. As I say, it just displays a dropbox logo, plays for 19 seconds or so, then nothing

Do you have the necessary codecs to preview the file? Since you're seeing the Dropbox icon, it means that the video can't be previewed on the site. Does switching browsers help at all?

codecs? I don't know what they are 😞
I was sent the file, it doesn't play anywhere I try, that's about the limitations of my expertise I'm afraid. Could I send it to you and you can see if you can play it?

We wouldn't be able to preview the files on our end, for security and privacy purposes.
There are two possibilities here, either your computer can't play the files due to codec issues (meaning, it literally cannot translate the audio and video into a playable video), or the video itself on the site is corrupt.
Since the file doesn't preview on the site either, it might be worth contacting the person who sent the file and telling them it isn't working.

Yeah I tried that and they're having the same issue, which is what made them send it to me to see if it would work. I guess there is no way to view this video then?

No, if they're experiencing this issue, then the video itself should be corrupted. Do they not have the original copy of the video on their machine somewhere?

No i don't think they do, i guess we're at an impasse in that case. Thanks for your time and for considering my query, i'm impressed by the speed at which you have responded and very thankful.

No worries, I'm sorry to hear that they don't have the original copy.

I am having downloading videos. Videos play on dropbox, but when I download video won't even play half the video. It will freeze about 1/3 way in or so.
