Dropbox looks for programme on wrong drive after BIOS update
Hi, I've PC running Win 11 with two drives. C: HDD and D:SDD
I recently moved Dropbox from C to D, and changed the location in Settings via Taskbar.
However, after a BIOS update this week, Dropbox now won't start from Taskbar. (I can still access all my documents by going to the drive). I think it's looking for the program in C.
Here's the error I get each time I click on the icon. Any suggestions about what to do?

Hi Elektra, I'd be more than happy to help!
Did you move your Dropbox folder, using these steps?
Also, about the error, could you try to follow these steps, in order to perform an advanced re-install?
Keep me posted!

Hi Megan
I did follow the steps outlined to change the location.
Bizarrely, today, the Dropbox program is now working and synching OK. The icon has returned.
However, another error is happening. I opened a document that I wanted to edit and save with a new file name in the same folder. But it failed and I got an error message saying it couldn't access the folder. I was then forced to save in main documents again.

Hi Elektra, could you attach a screenshot showing the exact error message you got?

Did you open the file from Explorer directly, or via Excel itself?
Is the full folder and filepath shorter than 260 characters?

From Explorer. I’ve never had an issue before with long file names.

Long file name issues would come up with an error similar to yours, saying the file cannot be found, hence my question, since Excel has a shorter limit of 218 characters. Do other files further up the folderpath (such as in the main Dropbox folder itself) load normally?
What about if you try to open the file from Excel itself?

Hi Jay
I just tried with a new word doc. Opened word and entered some copy. Tried to save to Dropbox folder and got the same error message. Again, I was forced to save in my MS One Drive > Docs folder and then move to Dropbox.
I am thinking of switching the Dropbox location back to the C drive and see if that works ok.
I will also post in the MS community, see if anyone else has issues.

Hi Elektra, could you clarify the path of the latest Word document you tried to save?
Is it saved on the same location as before, or higher in the hierarchy as Jay suggested?
You can try changing the Dropbox location, and contact Microsoft as well, and definitely get back to us with more info.

Hi, I tried to save the new word doc in the main Dropbox folder
"D:\elek\Dropbox\2023 Feb 7 word doc test.docx"
I checked the Storage settings in Win 11 and they still show drive D as the location for all new save files.
