"Error 403: disallowed_useragent" when trying to sign in to Dropbox to access Excel file
Please help.
I'm using a Pixel 6 with Android version 12 updated 7/5/22.
I was trying to open an excel file on Dropbox with Excel.
It then brought me to this page saying "Sign in to Dropbox to link with Microsoft Office Integration" in the Excel app.
I chose "Sign in with Google" since that's how my Dropbox was setup.
After entering my email and password, it told me "You do not have any security keys registered for this account.", so I chose "Try another way".
Then I chose "Tap Yes on your phone or tablet", which then caused Google to send me a notification asking "Are you trying to sign in?"
I chose "Yes, that's me.", then the Authorization Error page showed up, with the following message:
Authorization Error
Error 403: disallowed_useragent

Sorry I don't know what happened, but when I tried the same thing today, it did not ask me what app to open the file with and directly opened it with Excel.
It asked me if I would like to link Dropbox to either Microsoft or Google (I didn't read carefully), then the file opened without much problem.

Hey Julia24, sorry to hear about this.
Can you please clarify your device's OS and, if possible, send us a screenshot of the exact error you're getting so that we can have a visual too?
Thanks so much!

@Walter Android. This is the error. I just bought a new phones, I can log into Dropbox and see my files, but if I try to open them with Word or Excel I can't.
- Julia244 years agoExplorer | Level 3I just bought a new phone (Android) and installed Dropbox. I login, see my files, but when I try to open one, a page appears asking me to login to Dropbox again to connect to Microsoft Office integration. I connect to Dropbox again and this error appears: 403 error disallowed useragent. Can someone help me?

Thanks for the screenshot Julia24
Can you walk me through the exact steps you take that result in this error?
Are you previewing the files via a web browser or directly through the mobile app on your phone?

None of the recommended fixes in this thread worked for me, and it was really starting to drive me nuts! So then I tried this: Instead of clicking the "Login with Google" button at the Dropbox login prompt from within MS Office on my Galaxy S20 FE, I simply logged in using the same GMail username and password from the regular login page. And it worked perfectly.
Before going crazy resetting cookies, uninstalling and re-installing apps, factory resetting your phone or giving up and switching to an iPhone (gasp!!), try using your GMail creds as a normal login instead of the "Login using Google" button.

Hi anurtd354,
Thanks for visiting the Dropbox community. Sorry to hear you are having this issue. I can see that MrBeanley was also experiencing something similar and seems to have found a workaround for it. Have you tried the method he outlined above? Please let us know if this works for you too.
Thanks again and have a great day!

Hey LunQe, sorry to hear about this.
Can you please let us know some additional information like the exact OS of your device, the version of the apps in use etc?
A screenshot of the exact error you're getting would also help, so feel free to attach one in your next reply.

I just tried it again and it worked
I dont know why that it worked.
