Solved

I get an "email taken" error for an email address that's no longer linked to a Dropbox account.

Device
Acer Swift X
Operating System/Browser (if using the web)
Windows 11
Dropbox App Version (if using the app)
(200.4.7123 - found in app settings or About section)
Dropbox Plan
Basic

I intend to change my email address soon, but couldn't find how to do it, so I created a new Dropbox for the new email [...]. Intending to somehow transfer all my files.  Setting this up, I discovered Settings->General->Change email.

So I went back to my original Dropbox [...] and tried to change that.  Of course, it could not because one already existed.

I therefore went back to the [...] Dropbox and successfully deleted it. Or so I thought.

Unfortunately, attempting to change the email on the original [...] Dropbox fails saying that email address is already taken.

My fault, I know.  But any ideas?

javalava54 So as of right now you only have your original Dropbox account, there is no additional account?

There may be an additional Dropbox account connected to the email in question. We'll have someone reach out via email to clear this up

No, I only have 2 email addresses to use: this, my personal .uk address and the new gmail.com one.

I assumed that email needed to be a valid one so that Dropbox could contact me if necessary?

No, just this one.  I don't have any other email addresses to use.

Hey javalava54 , just checking in to confirm something. Have you recently created another account? (not the one you created and deleted in your original post). If yes, can you delete that account as well?

I am *not* talking about the original account in question, only the newly created ones.

Dell_Dropbox, has this changed recently? In the past, as long as you deleted the Dropbox account, you could (almost immediately) re-use the email address from the deleted account on another account. If this is no longer the case, why the change in functionality?

Hey there javalava54 welcome to the community

You'll be unable to use the email of the 2nd created Dropbox account. That email is now out of action for you. I realize it may not be the ideal outcome, but is it completely out of the question to keep your original account with the original email address its connected with?
