A Dedicated Photos App

A Dedicated Photos App

Google Photo just annonced that thier free service is now gone. There is now room for a new player and since Dropbox is already one of the top used storages services for photos this would be an amazing fit. What I'm suggesting is a stand alone Photo app that gives users the posibility to brows view their Dropbox photos in one place. A few suggestions of features are:

* Automatic face recognition and categorization

* Search (places, objects, etc.)

* Map with all photos

* "Remember this day in photos"

Personally I don't think it needs editing features to start with, but maybe down the line!

What actually happened was I ended up switching from Dropbox to Google Drive 😒 It does not make sense to pay for two cloud providers, and Drive seemed to be the wiser and cheaper option.

Sync speeds are a little slow, but I love how all my files are accessible through all their products.

Dropbox needs to listen to its community. Not just this, I see many ignored requests with thousands of upvotes. Not saying Google listens to the community, but hey, that is Google!

this is ridiculous, it's so annoying to view photos on dropbox. please dropbox just make a very simple photo viewing app. it doesnt have to be stand alone, it could be part of the dropbox app.

I could not agree more. It is just absurd that the situation remains the same. Let us at last have a simple, robust photo app allowing easy photo viewing (album flip through and slideshow)

there must be mad support for this!

some simple app to just see the images in a thumbnail manner is really required.

personally I have images from my phone(s) from the last 10 years, and it's a mission for me to go further back in time, than what I can store on my phone.

my wife on iPhone however can see all the way back using iCloud

First, mailbox was new. They removed it, while other services implemented features that mailbox had made popular. Then there was carousel - a decent app. They removed it and added a tab (less useful), while some other service providers added tabs or invested in standalone services. I stopped using DB as frequently sometime after that.

Yes please!

There's no where to really go now that can maintain both my folder structure as well as having the ability to search faces. The closest I've come to is storing the photos on windows offline, and scanning the faces using the windows photos app, but this is really insufficient. I'm just using dropbox essentially as a backup instead of an actual tool.

Big hole in the market here!

Dropbox photos is a bit lack luster in utilities features etc compared to Google Photos.

I believe the Dropbox team should develop a dedicated app/service for Photos and and have similar features, utillites etc to Google Photos.

One that can be used as a Gallery alternative on your phone and that can be used on both web and mobile (like Google Photos).

Google Photos has a really nice easy interface to use with heaps of extras and I wish Dropbox would develop Dropbox Photos a bit further.

This post also sums up some of my recommendations nicely. 😊
