Unable to open excel files in Dropbox since Mac software upgrade

Unable to open excel files in Dropbox since Mac software upgrade

When I attempt to open an excel file from dropbox on my Mac I now get the following error

Sorry, we couldn’t find /Users/Reception/Library/CloudStorage/Dropbox/NRO Reception's shared workspace/St Vincents Theatre Lists/2023/June/Operating List 22:Operating List 22:06.xls. Is it possible that it was moved, renamed or deleted?

I can still open it on my macbook through dropbox.  I have deleted excel and reinstalled, deleted dropbox and reinstalled and can't work out why I can't open the file from this particular computer.

I can open all other dropbox files from this computer, that are not excel files, including word files.

Hey there @Bec Prodger, sorry to hear about this.

Could you please send us a screenshot of the app's exact status and version as shown in your menu bar at the moment?

Are the files that give you errors available offline on your computer or online only?

Any additional information is more than welcome!

Hi Walter,

Thank you for your reply.  Here are my screenshots, I hope this helps?

Thanks for the screenshots @Bec Prodger

Could you send me another one of the errors you get and how the file looks on your end so that I can check its syncing icon as well?

If this happens with online only files, have you tried making them available offline before opening them locally on your computer?

Hi Walter, Sorry I have now changed it to be able to view offline, but it doesn't seem to have made a difference. I can view it on the Mac through the web log in, but not the app. I can view it through the app on my MacBook though.

Thank you for your help,

Walter

Can you try moving it or renaming it to shorten its path and let me know if you still get the same error @Bec Prodger?

I've just had this problem, too.  If I press the spacebar, I'll get the thumbnail for the file, but if I then tell it to open the file, it won't open. I found that if I go to Dropbox online and download the file, it will then open.

The file still opens normally on my old Mac that's on an OS 14.2.1. My new Mac is on 14.4.1. I've just migrated everything to it today, so it's either a set up issue or an OS issue.
