“Couldn’t save content. Check your internet connection and refresh the page." on iOS mobile app
Running iOS 17.3, just updated.
When I try to share content to Dropbox, I get an error message: “Couldn’t save content. Check your internet connection and refresh the page. There’s not internet connection issue; I’m connected. This is Dropbox-specific. If I use share to Save to Dropbox, that works fine; no error. This also seems unique to the latest iOS update, as I didn’t encounter it before that. I tried uninstalling and re-installing Dropbox, and simply re-starting. Neither helps.
Hi everybody,
As many of you have noticed, we implemented a fix in our updated version 362.7
Feel free to reach out if you're still having issues.
Thank you!
Sam

Using an iPad Pro. I can’t find the exact versions of Safari and Dropbox, but I made sure they are the most recent available. For me this started with the last iPad OS update. I can save by going to Files and then choosing Dropbox. But not directly to Dropbox.
thank you in advance for your assistance

Hey everyone, thanks for posting your experience with us.
Can you please make sure you are all on the latest version of the Dropbox app on your devices?
Also, which version of Safari are you using that's giving you this issue?

If I send the pdf file to myself by email (in the same window), it arrives fine.

I have the very same problem with downloadning pdf files. It is not a Reader’s View problem.

I’ having the same problem. Can’t save to Dropbox and the Save to Files option isn’t listed to try another site. Just noticed that this happens with Safari but not Chrome.
Have some more details. In Safari, if I pull down the application list and click on Save to Dropbox, I get the error. However, if under Options I select PDF (rather than automatic), the Save to Files option appears and I can then use that to select Dropbox and it works.
There is also a problem with the Reader View app (from the App Store.) integration with that and Safari no longer works.
- FireChief2 years agoHelpful | Level 5This is a closed thread talking about this issue on iOS 15: https://www.dropboxforum.com/t5/View-download-and-export/iOS-15-couldn-t-save-content-error-message/td-p/546805
While I just started experiencing it with 17.3 it has happened to some people before. The issue was never clearly defined in that thread. - Freelancerjourn2 years agoHelpful | Level 6
That’s because those web browsers do not have the “Reader View.” Safari is the only web browser available on iOS devices, that has the “Reader View.” The “Reader View” allows you to create a PDF of a webpage, and then share it to various resources.
For example, if I’m reading an interesting article either in Safari, or my Yahoo Mail, Twitter, etc., I will click “Reader View” to create a PDF of the article, and then Share it to the Dropbox app on my iOS device. This has been working fine for me until this week’s update to iOS 173. I feel like Apple and Dropbox need to actually communicate with one another (imagine that!) and work together to resolve this issue. Part of me believes this issue is with Apple (since this worked fine for me until the 17.3 update). Part of my also wonders whether Dropbox needs to update its app after the iOS update. Dropbox has not updated its app since the iOS 17.3 update. But I feel Dropbox needs to reach out to Apple on this, share with Apple the screen recordings we have shared with them and the complaints they have received from us, and they can work together to figure this out.

I've installed Firegox, Brave, and TOR. For each I've launched a website where Safari (and Vivaldi) return the "Couldn't Save Content" message when I try to share to Dropbox. That response does not appear when I share to Dropbox with any of these three browsers. However, none of them share the contents of the website to which I've navigated. Brave shares only the URL. Firefox and TOR share the website title, but not the page's content. Share to Dropbox is, in other words, useless with these three browsers.
- FireChief2 years agoHelpful | Level 5On another thread Dropbox stated they had identified the problem as isolated to sites that don't require authentication. I just started having this issue after upgrading to iOS 17. I am on 17.3 now. On the other thread people have been having this issue back to 2018. I know iOS 15 was mentioned in that thread. I can't believe that this has been going on for this long. It makes no sense for me to pay the large fee to Dropbox if I have to save it to another cloud service first. Please advise if this will be solved within the next month. If not I will just start moving everything to iCloud as I have enough storage there without paying you. Thanks.
