Missing files after syncing
Hi all
i have a dropbox basic account and I use it to back up files from an app called Songbook. I use Songbook to store files of songs with lyrics and guitar chords which I then sync to Dropbox as a back up of these files.
The last time I synced Songbook with Dropbox I noticed that there were nearly 200 files missing in my Songbook app the next time I used it.
I am reluctant to try and sync again in case the same thing happens.
Any suggestions or advice on how to avoid this most welcome.
Thanks
Chris

Hi Chris I.5, thanks for bringing this to our attention.
Are you syncing the files by manually moving them into the Dropbox app, or is the app syncing them for you?
This will help me to assist further!

Hi
Thanks for reply.
I am clicking on the sync button in Songbook app to sync all my files from Songbook to Dropbox
Not sure if it’s something I am doing wrong but it seems to be the only option available.
Didnt realise I could manually sync files
regards

Manual syncing is generally for files in the Dropbox folder, however, when using third party apps, their functions may differ slightly on how it's done.
Given this, it isn't possible to know why the files were deleted during the sync. Have you tried contacting the app developers for further assistance on this matter?

Hi
thanks for reply
I did contact Songbook but they weren’t very helpful basically saying they didn’t have any control over Dropbox.
Just to clarify are you saying I should manually sync from Dropbox to Songbook as I have been doing it the other
way round?
Thanks

The manual sync was just a suggestion, since I don't know how Songbook functions, so it most likely won't work if done incorrectly.
If files were deleted from their app, then there isn't much we can suggest. If there were deleted files on Dropbox, you'd be able to view them from this page on your account.

Hi
Thanks for reply.
it’s ok as I have backed up Dropbox on my laptop, it just means I’ll have to go through them all manually and download
them again, but that’s fine.
thanks again for your help

Hi Jay
further to our discussion yesterday. I have been in touch with song book again who suggested resyncing with Dropbox
which I did and the good news is that my files are now back in Songbook. Not sure what happened previously.
I have noticed that on my Dropbox account a lot of files have leaked out of the folder they should be in.
is there a way to manually move them to the correct folder in Dropbox?
Many thanksChris

Glad to hear that Songbook is working again.
Regarding the other files, you can try moving them back to the correct folder. Are these random files or entire folders that have been moved? IS this related to the Dropbox Backup feature?
