How to password protect the Dropbox folder in Desktop Application (Client)?

How to password protect the Dropbox folder in Desktop Application (Client)?

Whenever I install the Dropbox Desktop Application (Client) in my computer, then a folder is created under user folder of C drive and also a icon is created which resides in the system tray. However, anybody who sits in my computer can get access to my dropbox files easily through the desktop application. So, there is no security or privacy of files in Dropbox Desktop Application.

@Mike C.69 Per your concern about Dropbox folder security: Yes, if someone physically has access to your machine they can boot from a different copy of Windows or Linux and access your Dropbox folder; Windows by default does not encrypt your disk. However, it does offer that feature. Look into setting up BitLocker if you want protection against an attacker with physical access to your computer stealing your drive right out of your PC.

I have the same concern, and can't really find a way to password protect the Dropbox folder on my desktop. I'm checking into an application called "Sookasa" available through sookasa.com that is supposed to work seamlessly with Dropbox to protect the files in the desktop application. I'd be interested in whether anyone else has experience with this application.

I do think DB could secure the DB app better with a password for access to the cloud and settings, but the DROPBOX folder is just a folder on your computer.
.
So how do you protect any of the other folders on your computer from people looking, stop pointing at DB as the problem if your not locking people out of the computer.

All the stuff I care about protecting is in the DB folder. That's where my sensitive client information resides.

I don't understand why you are trying to shove your opinion down our throat! No it is not resolved and remains an issue that Dropbox should fix immediately. look how many people have this issue.

To explain it to you in simple terms............I use Dropbox for all my private stuff and have no issue with any other file on my computer that any of my coworkers or family has access to it

DROPBOX is designed to be used for ALL your files.

*Sam B. : *your confusing the cloud site and the local folder, they are NOT the same thing.

Even if your Db app made you log in to the cloud, I could still access the local folder, and since the app syncs it, I could thus change all syncing folders in it. Even if you secure the user account, you wouldnt stop me accessing the local folder if I had physical access to the computer.

I am not confusing anything.

The problem I am talking about is both. Once you start using Dropbox on your computer you cannot protect the local file and the cloud site with a password so no one else that has access to the computer should not have access to any Dropbox files.
