Installing Dropbox to a different hard drive but Dropbox won't allow me to do that.

Installing Dropbox to a different hard drive but Dropbox won't allow me to do that.

I want to install dropbox to my E: drive which has 2TB of space, instead of my C: drive which only has 80GB. I only put my OS on the primary to get better performance issues. During installation DB does not give me that choice, it downloads and puts the files on my C drive. Please help.q

During installation DB does not give me that choice

The option to store the Dropbox folder on another drive is available at the end of the installation. Click the Advanced Options link that appears at the bottom. If you've already completed the Dropbox installation, then follow the link that Bill gave you.

Mod note: Help Center article on how to achieve that would be: https://help.dropbox.com/installs/move-dropbox-folder

You can't. You can only control where the data directory is store. The application will always go to the C: drive.

Try moving the dropbox installer to the drive you want to put it in and run from there.

I want to install the Dropbox .EXE to another drive, not just the data folder. In other words, it should go in E:\Program Files (x86)\Dropbox and NOT C:\Program Files (x86)\Dropbox ... putting the installed on the E: drive didn't make a difference.

I have Dropbox Pro (1Tb), and I have two drives inside my laptop. The C drive is a small solid state drive for software/system files only. The F drive, my data drive, is large, and I have had my 500 gig of dropbox content there for a year. Recently tech help changed my settings causing Dropbox to fill up my small C drive.

I uninstalled dropbox and deleted the newly added duplicate dropbox files from the C drive.

The 500 gig of dropbox data are already on my F drive. I reinstalled dropbox but don't want it to another folder inside of my original dropbox and fill it up. I would not have room for double content! It should not move or add any content to the second drive. Is my only choice to delete the 500 gig from the data drive and wait for it all to reappear?

I have the exact situation at Peter F. above. The link posted by Bill J. is helpful, however the drive with my operating system is a relatively small SSD for operating system files only. The help page does not recommend putting the files on another drive than the OS, but that really defeats the purpose of this setup. I think it will work but have a concern about this statement on the help page, "Dropbox won't work correctly if the Dropbox folder becomes inaccessible, which can happen if it's located on an external drive that gets disconnected."

Does this mean that all your Dropbox data will be corrupted or that you will have syncing issues with files from that computer? The first scenario is unacceptable, but I can live with the second choice. What to do? Thanks!

Well, that pretty much sucks.

What if I have a small SSD and have to limit how much space is used on it? What if I prefer to have only the OS on the C: drive and all programs on another HD? I should have the option to choose where I want applications to be installed.
