Can we have different plans / price points / data combinations / plan sizes?

Can we have different plans / price points / data combinations / plan sizes?

Hi, I find limited in the choices of subscription plans. Basic/free and Pro/110$

I'd gladly pay something like 25$ a year for 50GB and a 2 users family plan.

Considering iCloud have a 12$ plan for 20 GB and 48$ for 200GB, that seems reasonable..

@woho I am aware of this - 1 Euro/month
https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201238
and since iCloud's share options are useful like DB

https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT210910,

there really aren't that many reasons NOT to leave dropbox for iCloud.

I'm using Android phones, though, which iCloud does not support. But I COULD use DB as a landing spot for image uploads, and keep essential share documents in a special DP folder under the "free account". But the management of this, back and forth, oh oh oh...!

As DB is not disclosing their reasons for price-tiering (or the lack hereof, rather), one has to guess.

[And since the present string with almost 700 comments began, the 1st level following the free 2GB has been increased from 1TB to 2TB, so no one at DB is listening].

And guessing brings anger. As a long supporter of DB I feel trapped; I have a lot of links going out from folders and files, and all of these would be lost, if I left DB. I cannot expand, because I do not want to pay for what seems to be an abandonment of the small file keepers for a focus on those with big files (less corruption, less data loss, less support needed), and I do not want to be stuck with an infinitely large basement, into which I can just toss things, rather than being forced into consideration. It's setting myself up for even further bondage.

I am really finding the SILENCE over the lack of price tiering passive aggressive, and that makes my mails to DB have a very nasty edge, which I do not like seeing in myself. Their support is always sugar sweet and anti-confrontationel, but having experienced real problems, real dataloss with them, I know it's just a facade, and that they are just as competent/incompetent as is every other supporter at every other IT-company.

At some point there WILL be a decent alternative, maybe the Berners-Lee vision will come to fruition, and that is when they will lose big time.

BUT I AM dreaming. I know they have comeptent people telling them THIS is the best for them, given the circumstances. And that is the worst insight: They are not dumb, and they are just protecting their business in the best way they can. And that THAT does not benefit me... Well, like I said: I feel trapped.

There hasnt been silence over pricing plans - Dropbox have already said they are not going to do it. They did that YEARS ago I'm afraid and they've been very, very, clear in all postings on here that Dropbox now is not about the space, you are paying for everything else that comes with it (paper, rewind, transfers, ShowCase, multiple devices etc.).

The status of this request is a 'not right now'.

@Mark
I am sorry if I have been wasting my own and everybody else's time.
Could you then please CLOSE the present stream, or mark it with CAPITAL letters above or somewhere else, that "MOST LIKELY tiered subscriptions below 2TB will never happen"!

I do not use anything but storage and links out, and I believe my argument about unnecessary space and future bonding still stands. AND I STILL feel trapped - unable to go somewhere else due to links used to advocate books and folder access over the years I have been here.

People want it all for free - and companies want to charge the earth for something which is not worth it

That's about it.

I don't mind paying, but it appears I have been waiting for something, which will not happen.

Also, I have not been trusting the whole idea of "my data in the sky", but now I would not mind paying for a plan befitting my needs. DropBox have proven their worth in terms of caretaker of my data. And of course I want everything for as little as possible. Given I can spend the time at the screen bemoaning... what I bemoan, should in itself be proof that my hours are not highly paid. (Because then I wouldn't worry about it and/or just fork up, or have someone else take care of it!)

So, my question is again: WHO are DropBox' customers now? Because it's not Me.

@Mark "Dropbox now is not about the space, you are paying for everything else that comes with it (paper, rewind, transfers, ShowCase, multiple devices etc.). "

From this it would appear than no one can put a price to value of these extra functions, making them attractive as singular purchases/add-ons, thus making a 2TB act as the FRONT SALE - seemingly what one is getting/paying for, while its really something else.

There is something wrong with the business plan here.

Personally I agree actually - I would like lower plans for less without the 'bells and whistles'.

But, no @Krabut there isnt something wrong with the business plan at all. Dropbox is a successful and profitable company (https://investors.dropbox.com/news-releases/news-release-details/dropbox-announces-fiscal-2020-first...). It may not be working the way you want it to work, but, the way it is working is successful.

Same as I could say I dont agree with Porche's business model as they dont do cars within the price point I'm willing (or rather able!) to pay. That doesnt mean there model or plan is wrong, it just is not for me.

@Mark Okay, eventually i will tire of this argument. BTW, your comparison with Porche is faulty. Porche is sold as a low riding sports car with a big engine. Not as it really is: A street model based on a racing car appealing to people with such ambitions but no talent; it has a **bleep**ty road grip, but it DOES have a great sound (like a race car...) and a very decent accelleration. Its a crappy car.

So, if its not a business plan, what is the word then? Oh, lack of honesty. What is that called now? Hoodwinking? Sleigh of hand? No, not right. Snake charming? No, also not right - quality IS being sold here.

Well, I must do some paid job now, so I'll leave it up to your acute mind, and those of other users, to figure out the word for Pricing something by one standard, because the real standard cannot adequately be priced for consumers to understand.

[lowest common denominator, something something]

["Yes, yes, it may cost more than what the competitors charge, but look at it: It's gilded! Yes, ladies and gentlemen, ours is GILDED! Can't compete with that, no one can!]

ah, yeah, hawking to the marks!

I'm just wondering, what's keeping you around DB? I switched along time ago, and never looked back. Google Drive has proven excellent value for me, even considered the fee I had to pay to the Insync guys to make it work properly with my Linux devices.

There are so many alternatives these days. Google Drive, iCloud, Sync.com, pCloud, Box, MEGA, Amazon Drive etc etc etc.

The list is long, I'd be surprised if you won't find one that fits your needs, unless, of course, you are after some of their auxiliary services that really don't have much to do with remote file storage in the first place.

Just vote with your wallet. Personally, I believe DB is going to be irrelevant for the home user within the next 5 years time. It seems like they decided they can't compete with some of the big boys on the list above and are targetting a niche market.
