All photos from 2010 on are gone
My music disappeared and all photos from 2010 on. Yes I had them on an external backup drive, and all I saw were picture icons with a gray X. Now even those are gone. The names of the photo folders and files are there, but now they all say file size 0 and they are totally gone.
I left both external drives and my pc connected overnight and somehow the photo folders are back.

Hey xenographicx - sorry to hear about your missing files.
If you made sure that you're looking at the correct Dropbox account, could you please take a look at your homepage, your deleted files page, the backups page and the events page and let us know if you see any signs of your files there?
Let us know what you find!

The homepage has a list of file folders. Some are complete, some say 0 items.I found the music folder, but there are also photos (some) in it. Dropbox has scrambled my files and created endless duplicates of some pictures.
Deleted files page has nada. and where and what is the backups and events page. ?
My goal is to get everything out of dropbox since it has become unweildy and unreliable and then cancel. I've yused this since the late 90s I believe and what was a simple program to manuever has become a literal nightmare.
i hope Amazon has a full copy of the photos...since everything is duplicated everywhere these days.

since so many other individuals seem tobe experiencing the same sort of issue, I'd recommend you look for errors in all this new code and not at user error.

There isnt a Dropbox error.
Dropbox cannot delete files without user doing it.
0 byte files mean they are not downloaded to the machine.
www.dropbox.com/events is the Events page
www.dropbox.com/backups is the backup page.

I am a boring user. When I was still working, I used to move files from my work computer to Dropbox so it would be available on my network. It would have not been allowed but I needed my info. Bad excuse. Then after I retired, I created folders for photos by year, my paintings, various other artwork, store my music …not fill up my HD and have access from my phone. Not hints or tips and I do have a complaint. You all have made the interface so complex that I really can’t find what I’m looking for and miss dragging and dropping to/from my desktop. I am working on filling my external 2T hd with everything so I have a clean backup. I have syncing on pause indefinitely since uploading automatically from my pc was corrupting my file structure and 10 years of phot files. Luckily I did have a clean copy of the photos to populate my backup. But I don’t think my Dropbox act will ever be the same. Picture icons with gray x’s dont don’t do it for me. When I get the desktop copy to match my external copy, and that drive removed, then I can decide what to do about Dropbox. I really miss the way it was, and the last thing I want is OneDrive. Anyway. There’s my 2 cents.
