Backup turned itself on and borked my Mac

Somehow Dropbox Backup turned on, on my Mac (I don't recall ever trying to turn it on). It started backing up my Documents/Desktop/Download directories, but it seems to have moved the physical location of the three directories so that my Mac can't find them. So I can see them in the backups folder online, but on my mac, the three (important) folders are empty and say "I don't have access" when I try to click on one.

Very disappointing.

Hi retailgeek, thanks for bringing this to our attention.

Have you tried disabling the computer backup feature by following these steps?

This will help me to assist further!
