Can we have a right-click option to choose which files to sync first?

Can we have a right-click option to choose which files to sync first?

It would be excellent (common sense) to include a function where you can right click a file and choose "Sync First" so that it syncs now. I understand that Dropbox syncs smallest files first but sometimes you have a large file that needs to go to the client NOW.

Also, or alternatively, a folder could be marked as "priority sync", so it always gets precedence when syncing.

I agree that with command line interface [CLI], user can designate in order which files have priority syncing.

or if using drag/drop method that would allow user to choose which file(s) to sync first.   some type of popup can be used and user could enter number or drag to re-order priority.

And there could be some default options to pre-sort priority.  such as largest file first/last , alphabetical order (ascending/descending), etc.

I think this order of precedence would be easy to implement on DB's end.  As you simply pause or disallow syncing lower priority files until the higher priority files are synced.

Excellent ideas Jon G.23! Thanks for that.

Great idea! I had issues with this multiple times as well when syncing to a new device, at the moment you are basically just waiting and hoping that the files you need first get synced anytime soon.

Interestingly... it appears you can choose which files to sync "now" or "next" when using the Dropbox "backup" function to sync certain folders on your computer (outside of the main Dropbox folder)... Assuming this actually works, why can't it be done with files inside the main Dropbox folder?

Hi Walter,

Can you please provide some information on why this idea is "not for right now"? It appears this can be done when using the Backup function (see my comment above).

Thanks.

The status update was specifically referring to the feature request for a right click option to prioritize files to sync @Joe Lewis Design - I'll rename the thread to make it clearer now.

Also, it's true that this is available to the backup feature, but there's also a way to prioritize files to sync through the desktop app (not folders) and it's outlined here.

I hope this clears things up!
