Delete Notifications from the desktop app

Delete Notifications from the desktop app

Does anyone know how to remove the notification that a folder has been shared with you (shows on the desktop folder app at the top)?

It reads: "Ashley Stewart Shared XXXX with you"

It's driving me crazy! I've downloaded the items but the notification folder won't go away!

You should be able to remove notifications in your Notifications tab by:

  1. Clicking on the Dropbox icon that's next to your computer's clock.
  2. Hovering over one of the notifications you'd like to remove.
  3. Selecting the ellipsis button that appears on the right-hand side.
  4. Choosing Dismiss notification

Besides that, you can get support or provide feedback in Help from the Community.

Thank you for your suggestion, and if you have another idea to share, please do!

I have a folder notification PINNED to the top that's from several days ago. I get it! There's a new folder there. Don't leave the same notification there for days and days, thanks.

Why is there not a simple X to dismiss this?

I am going to bump this as well with the same issue. I shared a folder from my mother in laws dropbox to me, temporarily, then deleted the folder but the notification still shows above my Recently Changed.

Some have said it drops off after a specific time. If that's true, what is the time?

I just don't understand why a simply feature can't be added. A programmer for dropbox can write the line of code on a bathroom break. If it's an RSS link to the Events feed, add a Delete Event option. Not tough to do Dropbox. With so many other options out there, this is enough to make people switch.

As an update/addition to my last comment: The notifications do eventually go away, but you'll just have to be patient. I think it was over a week for mine to disappear. The same thing happens when someone posts a comment as well. It does seem like this would be a quick fix for a company like Dropbox. I'm sure the person at Dropbox who can fix this also uses Dropbox and sees this happening on their computer, so let's hope they feel the same & get a few extra minutes to deal with this on their next bathroom break! @andrew g. 😉

I'm going to bump this too... I have a comment notification that's been lingering in my notifications drop down for a week. It's little more than annoying visual noise at this point. Wish I could dismiss it manually.

Bump again. This thing has bothered me since they added it. These notifications are unnecessary. I left a folder a few days ago that I've had for at least a year and it's telling me that the invite is no longer available. Yeah, I don't care seeing as I left the folder and the invite is a year old. Info not needed. And I have one from a folder I joined four days ago. I feel like the time is a week before it clears when an hour or NEVER would suffice. I don't need a notification that I joined a folder. I joined the folder. I did it. Me. Which means that obviously I know it happened. Now I've seen ones for someone joining my folder. That one makes sense. Maybe it should show that the next two times I click on Dropbox, but after that I definitely saw it. And if I didn't I get an email about it too. I'm all set with notifications. I just need recent files in there, that's about it.

BUMP

Seems to me that nobody is listening.  Perhaps it is time to find an alternative

Maybe they need a forum other than a "community" forum. I don't like any of the alternatives, unfortunately.

I just shared 3 folders with myself in an attempt to purge a 4 day old share notification that i resent was ever shared with me, now it looks like i have a week of looking at my own mess atop of that original bugbear..

Dropbox team, take the direct solution and give us an X on the notification slots please!
