Possibility to pair individual/personal (Basic and Plus) accounts.

Possibility to pair individual/personal (Basic and Plus) accounts.

Personally I would like to use a Basic (2GB/Free) account for my private stuff and a Plus (2TB/9,99 €) account for my business stuff. But with this setup it isn’t possible that both sync at the same time with my devices.

Would be great to have the option to pair individual/personal accounts – or in others words – sync two dropbox accounts to the same device. Right now it's only possible to pair/add an personal account when you are within a team…

Hi, My name is Daniel Borba. I'd love to offer the idea that I think multiple companies and people would love and it would help Dropbox generate more revenue, increase customer loyalty, and also improve market share over Google Drive.

Right now, a person is only able to sync a personal account and a business account to their computer, and that is limiting, because a lot of people are related to multiple entities that can't share files with other people outside of that entity. In other words, you can just share a church dropbox account with other people outside of that church. So the problem here is that a regular person would need more than just a personal account, and a business account. So the idea is to enable people to sync more than just two dropbox accounts to their computers.

Professional Accounts are sold under the business account banner.

Despite this, for some arbitrary reason Professional Accounts have been internally categorised as personal not business accounts.

As a result Professional Accounts cannot be linked to a Personal Account.

As a sole trader I have no interest in purchasing the minimum 3 Business user seats required but still require the functionality to keep personal and professional files separate (whilst syncing both accounts to the same device etc).

Please enable account linking for Professional accounts.

I suggest that the user can sign in with many accounts so he can use different accounts in one device. I signed in with my personal account but when I want to use my work email I have to sign out from personal email then sign in with work email or I have to sign in by the browser

Lots of freelancers would find it useful to have a personal and a professional account at the same time to separate personal and professional documents, but Dropbox does not allow this.   Freelancers don't need a business account with a minimum of three users because freelancers are generally sole-traders.

Please fix the problem that stops you having a personal and professional account at the same time.

Dear Dropbox Team,

Kindly consider the following suggestion.

Problem:

Two linked Dropbox accounts, one personal and the other business, do not run at once on the same PC. By not running at once, I mean for the two linked accounts, Dropbox (Personal) and Dropbox (Business) app shortcuts on Desktop do not open at once and Dropbox (Personal) and Dropbox (Business) folders do not sync at once on the same PC. I have to log out one account for the remaining account to have its app shortcut open and its folder sync.

Suggestion:

Dropbox should allow for the app shortcuts/folders for two linked accounts (personal and business) to run (open and sync) at the same time since the two accounts are separate and serve different purposes. It is cumbersome to log out of one account and into the other every time one wants files or wants to sync files.  Also creating two computer user accounts dedicated to each Dropbox account as an alternative to running two Dropbox folders on one PC at once comes with inconveniences and should be left to users of multiple personal accounts who desire to run them on the same PC.

Thanks and kind regards.

Hi @Aleu, thanks for contacting us!

This feature is already available, using the option to connect a Dropbox Business team and and personal account to have separate local Dropbox folders.

Are you definitely referring to a Dropbox Business account (either Standard or Advanced) and a separate personal account?

This will help me to assist further!

@Jay

Thank you for the comment.

Yes, I am referring to Dropbox Business account (using Professional plan, 3TB, single user) and a Dropbox Personal account (using Basic plan). Let me explain what I did below.

I was already having Dropbox Personal installed on my PC. Then I added my Dropbox Business account (via Preference --> Account --> Add team account --> Business account log in). The two accounts successfully got linked and my previous Dropbox Personal account folder was renamed Dropbox (Personal) and I also got a new folder named Dropbox (Business). Similarly, I also got two Dropbox App shortcuts on my desktop named Dropbox (Personal) and Dropbox (Business).

However, the two app shortcuts do not open when the two accounts are logged in. Only one Dropbox app shortcut opens. Similarly, the two folders do not sync at the same time. But when I log out one account, the remaining account works just fine, i.e the app shortcut opens and the folder syncs. Therefore, to sync files on two accounts, I have to log out one account and when syncing is complete, I then log out and log in to the other account and sync the files.

I contacted the support team on this problem and I was told that the two Dropbox folders will not sync at the same time on the same PC, same PC user account. Alternatively, I would have to create two PC user accounts to be able to sync both folders. I thought this was true for two Dropbox Personal accounts on the same PC but not for Dropbox Personal and Dropbox Business accounts linked on the same PC. But apparently, I got it wrong. Hence, my post.

Now, I wonder if this problem is due to my Dropbox Business being a single user type. Probably, Dropbox Business 3 users+ type may not have this issue. I will appreciate getting help on this.

Dropbox Professional isn't a team plan, so this option to link the personal and business account isn't available as it is already considered a personal plan.

Currently, it isn't possible to connect two personal plans, so I'll merge this thread with another idea.

@Jay

Thanks for this information and for reference to another post on the same issue. It finally explains the trouble with my two accounts.

However, it would be great if and I hope Dropbox team considers our demand to allow Dropbox Professional to be linked with Dropbox Personal because clearly the two accounts are meant for a different purpose and to include the same features on Dropbox team 3 account on Dropbox Professional will make the latter very user-demand-centred and more useful for the users.
