Solved

Videos that are uploaded to Dropbox on my iPhone don't play when they're downloaded on my computer.

my iphone is getting full of my photos and videos and i wanted to use dropbox to move the larger videos to my computer. however everytime i upload a video from my iphone and download it on my computer, when i open to watch/view it on my media player it wont let me view and tell me i need to buy a codec. i dont want to pay for anything and i only plan on using dropbox to transfer large files from my phone to my computer.

  • nevermind, found the issue was with my media player, transfered to a new one that supported the hevc

    Hey grenshep13!

I couldn't agree more about Dropbox being a life saver, and that's coming from me as a user, and not as a Dropbox Community Moderator. 😇

Definitely keep the post. It can help others gain insight if they face a similar issue.

Wishing you an amazing rest of the week ahead!

Hi grenshep13  and welcome to the Dropbox Community. I’m so happy to hear your issue is resolved... and thank you for coming back to share what worked. It’s always so helpful for others in the community who might run into something similar!

I’m Theresa đŸ‘©â€đŸ’», one of the Community Managers here in the forum. I love jumping into conversations like this or kicking off new topics across the board. Since you’ve been working with videos on Dropbox, do you have a favourite feature when it comes to uploading, sharing or watching them?

Looking forward to hearing more from you,

    T😾 (Dropbox Community Manager)

I’ve mostly just been using Dropbox to transfer videos and photos from my phone to my laptop, I like to take videos and pics of the outdoors but I took so many that my phone was actually full of storage lol. Originally was using Gmail but then quickly learned that they have a limit to how big you can send files with so I spent like an hour looking for free apps/websites to transfer my larger videos until I found Dropbox. Took me a bit to learn how to use it properly and the whole Hevc situation. I’m probably going to keep using Dropbox to transfer files rather then store them as I prefer it that way but Dropbox has been nice to use for free and the 2 gigabyte limit hasn’t really affected me as none of my videos are like 2 hours long or smth like that.
