Dropbox says that my storage is almost full but I don't have enough files to reach capacity

Hi.

I have files stored in my Dropbox, but the majority of them have files sizes in KB and MB.  I don't see how this all equals 1.97 GB of information.  I have looked through the forum to see how to activate and see file sizes.  What is using up my storage?

  • Hi Rich,

Thanks for jumping into the thread.  I did some thinking, and I think that I came up with a solution for the issue...well, kinda.  I discovered what is going on.  I took a look at my local Dbox folder that is on the H/D of my computer.  Unlike the Dbox page, I went into it and was able to see the file sizes of all the folders, etc.  (This online page really puts the user at a disadvantage b/c it isn't intuitive and doesn't allow you to see what you need to see without really digging into it...seems like the devs are are trying to frustrate the user into upgrading to a plan that costs money because they can't get the necessary information about their memory usage in order to troubleshoot.)  Any way, I discovered that the culprit was my Apps folder.  It is the drain on the memory allocation.  So I am determining what I can delete and what I can't.  Hopefully this will get me to where I need to be.

No backups listed:  0 bytes.  Now I did see a shared file, but I don't share anything with anyone.  The weird part is that I don't see that shared file anymore.  How can I see that file again?  And how do you stop sharing something?

  • Hey Mark,

I hit the 3 dots by that folder and clicked "remove me".  That's when it disappeared from the share screen.  But it looks as though that shared folder is still apart of the amount of memory used up.  Please advise.  Thanks so much for your help!

  • Yeah, I stopped sharing with that file last night.  And I have activated the size column...nothing is large enough to max out the account's memory allocation.  Even if you combined all of the file sizes, they still don't combine to anything close to what Dbox is saying that is used up.

Take a screenshot of your usage as shown on your Plan page and post it here. It should look like this:
