Solved

I can't edit one of my Excel files anymore.

I am trying to work on an Excel document. I have been able to edit it in the past and can edit other Excel documents with no issues. This one (which I downloaded, worked on my laptop and re-uploaded the new version) will not let me edit it. That defeats the purpose. How can I correct this? It loads with the active taskbar, then shuts it off, and I cannot edit it. I don't see a way to attach a file here but I can edit other documents that open in Excel for windows/web so why not this one???

  • Yesterday, I edited it and reuploaded it again and this time it finally worked. I was able to edit it. I will get back to you if it happens again. There isn't anything to take a picture of, I simply couldn't edit the document. I couldn't even set it to edit. The ribbon at the top wouldn't activate.

Dropbox doesnt control the opening of files on your machine - that's done by your machine itself.

Are you getting any errors etc. or is it just opening and closing?

Are you opening via web or a folder on your computer?

I am opening in the dropbox app on my phone or online (Microsoft 11) and it won't give me access to the edit function BUT IT DOES with other Excel files. I have changed no settings, no permissions, nothing with the app online or on my phone and it now won't let me edit it. This seems like an issue on your end not mine.

eltdonehealth, can you send us a screenshot of what you see exactly when trying to edit the Excel file?
