I don't have access to the email address associated with my account - Can I access the account?

Hi all, I have not used my dropbox account for a while - i don't have access too my affiliated email address to my dropbox account. I do no any longer have any dropbox apps that are logged in, and I have 2 step login security. How can I regain access?

Thank you!

How long is a while? If the account has been idle for more than a year, it would have been deleted due to inactivity. Once an account has been deleted, it's not possible to recover the files that were in it.

Is this a code that's being emailed to you, or is it a code being sent to an authentication device, such as a phone?

If it's a code being sent to your phone, this will be the biggest problem. When you have two-step verification enabled and no longer have access to the authentication device, you'll need to use the emergency backup codes that you were given when enabling two-step verification. Without them, it's not possible to gain access to the account.

If this is a one-time security code that's being sent to your email address then you can try contacting Support, but without access to the email account you may not be able to gain access to the Dropbox account. You need to maintain an active email address on your account so you can receive password resets and one-time security codes used during sign in.

To contact Support, visit the Support page while you're NOT signed in to a Dropbox address, including these forums, and you'll see an option for sign in issues. It's best to use an Incognito or Private browsing session to make sure you're not signed in.

If you're unable to gain access to the account, Support will at least be able to cancel any future payments if the account is on a paid subscription.
