Dropbox Files modified with ".PLAY" and cannot be opened anymore

Dropbox Files modified with ".PLAY" and cannot be opened anymore

Hello,

Yesterday I realized that all my dropbox files in a shared folder received the ending ".PLAY" and cannot be opened anymore, example "Document1.pdf.PLAY". No matter if I try to open them online in my dropbox, after downloading them on my Computer (Windows) or trying to open them on my mobile phone. As those documents are really important to me, I'm urgently looking for a solution to gain access to those files again.

Did anyone of you experience this before? Do you have a solution on how I can gain access again? Or is there a possibility to get a back-up from the files form 2-3 days ago before this file ending all of a sudden appeared?

After talking to the two other people who the folder is shared with, they have the same issue now but do not recall making any changes that could lead to this issue.

Thank you for your support!

You've been hit by ransomware: https://www.avertium.com/resources/threat-reports/an-in-depth-look-at-play-ransomware

Basically you need to clean all of your machines/devices and then rollback the files. You should be able to do it via Dropbox, however to do them in bulk you need to be a paid user and use Rewind.
