Set Naming Convention to Replace Current File Name

Set Naming Convention to Replace Current File Name

Hi Everyone -

I have  Dropbox Pro plan, and I'm trying to set a custom naming convention in a folder, and I would like to not just add a keyword and date of capture, but I want that to REPLACE the current file name. I'm using Windows 11, in case that matters.

I use Snagit (Techsmith) screenshot software, and when I drag a file from Snagit to Dropbox, it retains Snagit's useless default name (ex. Snag_112087a2.png), and if I use Dropbox's Automated Naming Conventions feature, I get: "Naples_Immok Snag_112087a2.png" - I am limited to only 15 characters of what I want it to be named, along with the useless Snagit file name. Also, no capture date even though I set it to include it.

In theory, being able to set automated naming conventions to include all the info I want and none that I don't want would be AWESOME...however, as it is, it's extremely limited, and therefore frustrating. Maybe I'm missing something?

Hi @dloprinzi, happy Monday!

In regards to renaming the file entire, I'm afraid that this isn't currently possible when using naming conventions. I'll forward your feedback to the appropriate areas so we can continue to improve.

As for the capture date of the files, and the fact that you're not able to see it, could you send me a couple of screenshots of the capture date on the files, and what you see in Dropbox, in order for me to have visual too?

Keep me posted!
