How do I make Dropbox search only for the exact term I have specified?
(sigh).
I need to search for the term “Landis” in my dropbox. When I try to do so, for some reason which makes zero sense, dropbox is showing me words that are similar to “Landis”. For example, I have 100 results with the word “landing”. If I wanted to search for “landing” I would search for “landing”.
However I want to search for “Landis” and do not want to see results which do not meet that criteria. How do I make dropbox stop taking it upon itself to decide what I might want to see in search results, and force it to show me only the EXACT term I specify?!

Hi there, Admin2020, thanks for reaching out to us.
Are you searching for words in the names of your files or their contents?
If you use a different browser or private browsing, do you get the same behavior?
Keep me posted.

Update: Per chat support, there is no way to search for a specific word or phrase in Dropbox, whether the name of a file or within the contents of the file. Dropbox has an algorithm which will find words and phrases which it has decided are similar to what you're searching for, and includes those results in the search results no matter what you do. Thus, Dropbox forces you to see irrelevant search results and there's nothing you can do about. You must sift through hundreds of search results one by one to find what you need.
It was very disappointing to learn Dropbox lacks basic search functionality in 2025.

Yes, this is ridiculous! Very close to ditching Dropbox. Not just because of this, but with 3TB of data stored across tens of thousands of files, being able to search for an identical match - and ONLY an identical match - is very important.
