Solved

I can't open my Dropbox files.

I have not been on Dropbox lately and came back to see many many changes.  I am sticking to free account but I absolutely cannot even see or open any of my things that are on Dropbox here.  Nothing!!  Just the huge add splashed across to know what version of Dropbox I wanted.  There are many files that I want to access but I have no idea what  to do.  Am I really that forgetful? Yes I am a senior citizen but oh my goodness!  I need help!  Please!

  • I had changed my net server changed, the place where we get internet from and started from scratch.  I really think bit defender had a hand in it as well.  Thank-you to all who tried to help a very senior lady try to fix her issues🧡

Can you post a screenshot of what you are seeing so we can try and help?

I've been using Dropbox for a few years now. I sync my two computers there. In the last two days I can't copy a file from the directory to another. It says access to cloud file denied .
I've already lost a few files and I'll probably end up using Dropbox.

Hey Branislav S., let's jump right into this!

Would you mind clarifying the OS you're using, along with the Dropbox version and syncing status?

You should be able to find the app's version, and syncing status by hovering your mouse over the little Dropbox icon on your task/menu bar next to your WiFi.

Do you also have a screenshot of the error message you get on your end, in order for me to have a visual?

      Keep me posted!

Dropbox has been synchronizing important files for me for years. Not the entire disk between a computer with WIN10 and a computer with WIN11.

I use the Synchredible program to back up to external disks. I installed the new Dropbox application 803,888 bytes with the date 21.03.2025. During the first backup, Sychredible gave me an error. It could not copy files from the Dropbox directory to an external disk.

I could not do that manually or with another program.

I uninstalled the Dropbox application and I am a free man again. I found an older version 690,072 with the date 10.10.2016 on the external disk. I will install it and write how it works.

      Sure thing Branislav S.!

Keep us updated, and if you come across any issues again feel free to attach a screenshot too.

      Thanks!

If that's referring to an older version of Dropbox, it won't work. Dropbox blocks older versions of the application from connecting to the servers, or automatically updates them to the latest release if they're still able to connect.

After the update to the new Dropbox, were your files marked as Available Offline or were they showing as Online-only? If they were Online-only, your third-party application may have a hard time copying them as they would need to be downloaded back to the computer by Dropbox first, then copied. Right-click a file and select Available Offline, then try to copy it.
