I deleted my Dropbox account, but my files were online-only and I can't open them.

I closed down an old account and downloaded the files. I have since learnt they are locked..... the accounts have been deleted.

Pretty angry this isn't made obvious, but anyway...... is there any way we can unlock those files?

Sorry to hear that you're having an issue after downloading your files, Cambosaur.

Can you clarify what you mean by "locked"?

Also, how did you download them?

Any additional info would be very useful.

    Thanks.

Hi Hannah, I downloaded the entire drive contents to an external harddrive. The files appear to be complete but theyre tagged online only andI can't open them.

In this case, I’m afraid there’s not much to be done, as the files haven’t been fully downloaded on to the external drive; it’s only their placeholders that are there.

Do you have any other computers perhaps where the desktop app had been previously installed and the files were made available offline? If yes, you should be able to retrieve them from that device.
