I see a box next to my photos on my computer and I can no longer open them.
I have used Dropbox to save my photos from my phone and have access to them on my computer. Suddenly I've noticed that I do not have access to all my photos on my computer. I see them, but they have a box around the photo name and I cannot open it. Is this because Dropbox has suddenly started asking for subscription money? And, if I pay, will I have access to my photos once again?

Hey FrankPosa, welcome aboard our Community.
If the photos have been added to your mobile app with no issues and you’re not close to maxing out your account’s quota, I don’t believe you’d need to upgrade, but we’ll need more info to check this further.
Can you send me a screenshot of the box you describe?
Are you seeing your photos normally, if you visit www.dropbox.com?
Let me know when you have more details.

I can see the photos in Dropbox, but I cannot access them. I can't open the file, nor can I copy or move the file. I see it and it looks OK, but I can't do anything with it. I am trying to copy my Dropbox files to an internal directory and it won't copy. I tried to open the file to see what the photo was and it won't open.

FrankPosa, to look into this further, I’ll need a visual of what you see on your computer exactly when trying to open the photos.
You can attach your screenshot here by clicking on the button below:

I upgraded to a costlier version. Had to wait a day for Dropbox to accepts the money. Now it works again. Not sure why it worked for many years without paying the upgrade price, but I don't want to lose my photos, so I paid. Unhappy, but accepting the facts.

My guess FrankPosa is you ran out of free quota at which point all syncing stops. So once you pay and upgrade syncing will start to work again 🙂

I had the same files in dropbox before dropbox stopped working. So, I'm sure it had nothing to do with my quota. It may have had something to do with upgrading Windows 11 to the latest version, but I'm not sure why that would have caused dropbox to suddenly stop working. Even after I paid for my upgraded subscription to dropbox, it still didn't work correctly - giving me error messages and not letting me see what was in my dropbox. Then, suddenly after a few more days everything went back to the way it was. I think this was simply dropbox and windows 11 having some inconsistencies that after days of working on it were resolved. I don't mind the paid version for now. When it comes time to renew I'll check out if I need to keep the product.
