Opening a Dropbox Paper file fails with 500 error

Device
MacBook Pro M3, Windows PC
Operating System/Browser (if using the web)
macos 15.5, Windows 10
Dropbox App Version/Browser Version
Chrome, Firefox

Question or Issue
I've had a couple paper files shared with me, and I see them in my dropbox. But when I click the share link that came to my email, or try to open the shared files from my dropbox in a web browser, I get a 500 error.

I've tried on different computers, different OSes, different browsers. I find that I can open the paper files on my mobile app.

The URL that's responding 500 begins as (I've stripped the query params since they seem sensitive): https://www.dropbox.com/paper/doc/8fC6htFBX7W2w8KgUxqC3 ...

  • I am able to successfully create, edit, save, and re-open paper docs that I make myself, in my dropbox.

Aaaaand, now that I try opening those shared links again, they work. 🤷

Hi lawoeilk, thanks for messaging the Community.

Just for clarification, do you get the same issue when opening your own Paper documents from your Dropbox account?

Are you opening them in the Paper mobile app, or the Dropbox mobile app?

This will help me to assist further!

Thanks for the update, it could've been a temporary issue with their Dropbox account, or some other access issue.

If the issue occurs again, please let us know!
