Unable to open Excel files on Android Dropbox mobile app.
Hey, since yesterday my colleagues with android phones can't open shared files made in excel in dropbox. It says "File type is not supported". For us with iphone there is no problem. Anyone else noticed this? I get same message through my computer but then i can easily open it anyway with "open with", but on the phone they dont get the same options.

Thanks for bringing this to our attention, JGlimra.
Are they having this issue only with Excel files or other Office files as well?
Can you please let me know if this happens when they preview the file through the mobile app or the website?
Can you send me a screenshot of what they see when they try to open an Excel file from the Dropbox mobile app?
Thanks in advance.

Thanks for quick answer. It happens when they try to access the Dropbox app from their cellphones. it’s only with excel files. Everyone get different choices of what to open with and nothing is like the real file so they can’t really see it.

If they press open with excel they need to download excel and then they download it cause they are able to edit their own copy. All users only have view access in this document.

Hey JGlimra!
Based on your screenshot, I understand the the file has been shared via a link. Is that the case, or did you invite the recipient via email?
Can you also send me a screenshot showing what they're seeing if they try to open the file using a desktop browser? - JGlimra10 months agoNew member | Level 1
It is a shared file (the file is created in Dropbox) invited by email. They don’t have computers, it’s just a schedule they access through their phone when driving between clients. If I put it in a shared folder they get the same issue.

Hey JGlimra, hope you don’t mind if I jump in.
So, from what I understand, you’d like them to preview the Excel file via their mobile app, correct?
Can you clarify the size of the Excel file showing in your screenshot? If they download/save the file locally to their devices as a test, can they open it normally?

Hey, my team just got back to me that all is back and running as usual since this morning. Don’t know if you managed to find the issue or it was just a bug of some sort. Thanks any ways!
But yes it is correct, view the file from their cell phones. It worked when downloading it, but not all got excel installed and then they couldn’t open it.
The file is 1,06mb, it’s basically screenshots of the schedule produced in excel. It works better to put it in excel since the page is bigger than word for example. And they are able to see one week at a time - Nancy10 months ago

Glad to hear it’s all sorted, JGlimra! Thanks for responding to my previous questions, as well.
If you need something else, feel free to give me a nudge.
