Account deleted by my old business partner. Can I restore it?
Hi There!
I’m looking for help regarding my Dropbox account, which I’ve had for over 8 years. Recently, I tried to log in and discovered that the account has been deleted. This account contains a significant amount of personal and client-related videos and photos, and losing access to it has been devastating.
Here’s some context that might help:
- Two months ago, my business partner locked me out of all accounts associated with my work email due to a messy separation.
- My Dropbox account was originally a personal account, created before I joined the company, and was not paid for or created by the business.
- At some point, I switched the account’s email to my work email, but I didn’t realize this until now.
- I suspect my former business partner may have gained access to the account and deleted it.
I’m hoping there’s a way to recover the deleted account and its contents, as well as change the account’s email address to a personal one that I control. This account is incredibly important to me, and I would greatly appreciate any assistance you can provide in restoring it.
Please let me know what steps I need to take or any information you require from me to proceed. Thank you so much for your help during this stressful time.
I did figure it out, it was synced with to an old client. They deleted it to make space... They restored it.
Phew...
Only issue now is when I try to log in its sending the login code to my old work email which I don't have access too.

Hi there, DABSDABU sorry to hear about that!
You mentioned that at some point you realized that your work email was used for your personal account. Do you remember if perhaps your business partner invited you to join their team?
Do you notice any errors when trying to sign into the account, or does it prompt you to set up a new account?
Keep in mind that if the account was indeed deleted, there's not much that we can do about it.
If your business partner invited you to join their Dropbox team and then removed you, they might have access to some of the files. However, that'd only happen if they chose to transfer your data, when removing you.Keep me posted, and we'll take it from there.

You'll need to go back to them and ask them to either give you access to the email account, temporarily, or ask them to work with you while signing in so they can give you the code when they receive it. Once you get signed in, you should immediately change the email address on the account.

Hey DABSDABU, if what Rich mentioned isn't possible then there might be another route.
You can check any connected devices that you have, to see if you received the code there.
If this doesn't work, I can open up a ticket on my end for you, in order for us to have a closer look into this.
