Getting a permissions error when trying to delete a shared folder

A folder of pictures was shared with me and I saved the folder in Dropbox. I have since moved the folder to a shared drive at work. I now want to delete the original shared folder (and pictures) to free up space on my Dropbox. However, the following message pops up:

"You need permission to perform this action

You require permission from XXXXXX\cpaluga to make changes to this folder"

I am that person that requires permission, so why can't I delete the folder, or grant permission?

Thanks for that, can you try unsharing the folder from this page:

    https://www.dropbox.com/share

Click the ellipsis (...) and then 'Remove from Dropbox'. The folder will become grayed out on the site, and the folder should vanish from your computer.

This sounds like a message from your OS, are you on Windows by any chance?

You mentioned that you moved the folder to a shared drive at work, does this mean a network drive, or did you share a folder with another Dropbox account?

Any information you can provide would be helpful!

    Yes, I use Windows.

I copied the folder and its pictures to a network drive.

I believe this is asking for your MAC sign in password. Enter the pwd you use to sign into your screen.

I've faced this issue before. There are two ways to fix You need permission to perform this action Error. One of the following step should help majority of the people facing this issue.

    Follow the steps below

    1.Boot into Safe Mode
    2.By changing the Owner

Thanks for posting your  question here and welcome to the Forum P2!

Can you please let me know more information about the issue you are having? What exactly are you trying to achieve?

Does this issue persist on another browser other than the one you normally use ( such as Chrome, Mozilla Firefox and Safari to name a few) ?

Bear in mind that a screenshot of the error/problem you are seeing is always helpful, so if possible, attach one in your reply so we can have a visual of what you described as well.

Thank you in advance for your response!

his happens everytime i run the setup, regardless of whether running from harddrive or usb stick. Dropbox login finishes and dropbox starts in system tray with the default Dropbox folder settings, but DropBoxPortableAHK is still waiting. Is it possible, that this may have something to do with two-step verification?

Hey karanzale - sorry to hear this.

As this software is not developed or maintained by us, we won't be able to help much; have you tried contacting them directly?

Also, from what I gather based on your description, the problem you're experiencing could be related with the level of access to the Windows Registry and you could try using the steps of the following Help center article in order to fix the issue:

    https://help.dropbox.com/installs/access-windows-registry

Let me know what you find!

PS: Do you get the same error if you try to install normally from your computer's internal drive on a supported configuration
