I can't delete files from my computer, why?

I worked for a company that shared their entire Dropbox directory with me, which contains several terabytes of data. Our collaboration has ended, and they removed my access to their Dropbox folder. However, the folder with all the data is still on my drive, and Windows refuses to delete it because it is protected. I have even reinstalled Windows, but the issue persists. I would like to get rid of this folder.

No. Only on my physical drive. I can't modify or delete any of the files or folders.

Hi danchez, thanks for bringing this to our attention.

Were these files in a private Dropbox folder or a shared folder?

This will help me to assist further!

    Hi Jay!

This was a shared folder and wasn't saved on my private Dropbox just on my D: letter drive. After formatting the C drive and reinstalling Windows, the shared folder on the D drive was still not modifiable.

What error do you get when trying to delete it? Could you attach a screenshot of this message?

Okay, did you recently upgrade your computer, or copy files from an old hard drive? This Windows error means that it's looking for a specific user on your computer that no longer exists (or never did).

Could you follow these steps in order to correct the user access on the folder, which will then allow you to delete it.
