I signed into my account and all my photos are gone

A few months ago I received a message from Dropbox that if I didn't sign into my account all my photos would be deleted. My Dropbox was full and I hadn't added any photos for quite some time but did want to save them. So I signed in, updated my email address and looked through all the photos. I thought that was all I had to do.

This week I got a similar email stating I needed to do something because my Dropbox was full. So I signed in and to my big surprise all the photos were gone!

Is there any way Dropbox can restore these photos or am I screwed?

Sorry to see that your files are missing, soccerlaurie.

Is it possible that the emails you received, came to two different email addresses and thus you have two different Dropbox accounts?

Also, what do you see in your deleted files page here and your events page here?

Let me know and we'll go from there.

Hi Hannah, thanks for responding. No, I just had the Dropbox account on my Yahoo account. When I received the email in June of this year that if I didn't sign in to my account all the photos/files would be deleted, I signed in. At that time I updated my email address to my Gmail account. The email made it sound like all I had to do is sign in. I checked your above mentioned links and the deleted files page is empty and the events page only has that item of adding the community forum app.

Hmm, this leads me to believe that instead of updating your email, you created a new account under your Gmail address.

Would you mind opening a window on a different browser or a private browsing window and then try to sign in to Dropbox with your Yahoo email, to see if it allows you to sign in?

I think you solved the problem. I did sign in with my Yahoo address and that account remains as do the photos. Is there a way for me to link my original Dropbox account with my Gmail address?

You can create a shared folder between the two accounts BUT you will need to log on to the other account to do this - and assuming its not been deleted. If it has been deleted its unrecoverable.

What Mark advised, is a great way to "merge" the files of your two accounts; is this what you'd like to do?

Or do you perhaps want to use your Gmail address for your original Dropbox account?

If so, and assuming that the account associated with the Gmail address is empty, you could simply delete it to free up the Gmail address.

Then you can follow the steps here, while signed into your original account, to update the email from the Yahoo to the Gmail one.

Another way could be to use a third, placeholder address for the new account, to free up the Gmail address and use it for your original account.

    I hope this helps!
