My old device added some deleted files back to a shared folder. Can I use Dropbox Rewind to undo it?
I just logged onto my old laptop -not used for a couple of years. Realised dropbox was connected and updating and stopped it. But a bit later I got notifications on my usual computer that 1k plus folders had been added to a shared folder.
Another user had been through the shared folders and deleted lots of old files a few months ago. Seemingly I have added them all back .... obviously I will not be popular.
I have been looking at 'rewind' -I used it before (someone deleted the shared folder) but now it seems that I can't use that with my basic account.
I don't really use dropbox for personal use -just for this shared folder. Does anyone have any suggestions about what I can do?
What is the cheapest way of me sorting this out?
If I took out a months subscription just to use rewind - could I cancel it after? Would rewind work - seeing as I have already done this - and I would need to go back to before I subscribed.
Could I do that even though I am not the 'owner' of the shared the folder? (Have edit permissions)
Help!
Hi lwluc! Hope you're well and thanks for posting on our forum.
As the next step, I’d like you to go to your Events page here and let me know if you can find the event showing these files being added back to the shared folder. If you can, please click on it and send me a full screenshot of what you’ll see next (if there are any filenames that you wish to remain private, feel free to mask them first).
Now, regarding Dropbox Rewind, it could help with what you’d like to achieve, even if you’re not the owner of the shared folder in question. If these files were added back within your 30-day version history window, you should be able to undo that update.
And, of course, if you wish to purchase a monthly plan for a little bit, you can then cancel it at any point, so that it doesn’t auto-renew at the end of your billing cycle.
Keep me posted for any updates.

Thanks for your reply ...I was really panicking!
I have started a free trial and managed to rewind - looks like it was almost 2000 folders I had added... seem to have gone now. Thank goodness.
Hopefully everything is back to normal now (and I have removed my old device from the list so it won't happen again)
Thanks again for your reply - I think knowing I could rollback from before I upgraded (even temporarily) gave me the confidence to try...

I’m happy I was able to help, lwluc! It sounds like the Rewind was successful indeed.
If there’s something else you may need though, you can always give me a nudge.
