Some of my Dropbox shared content has been deleted, without the option to restore.
Hi,
I received several messages stating that our Dropbox storage was full, and another email stating that some content would be permanently deleted on June 4, 2025. I figured it was a storage problem, so I backed up most of the files and deleted them from Dropbox to clear storage.
But that didn't help, and I found out on Sunday that VERY important folders that I didn't back up had been deleted without an option to restore.
Is there any way to receive a backup of our Dropbox from June 3, 2025? We are willing to pay for the service if needed, it's very important for us to restore and back up the deleted folders.
Our Dropbox isn't a private account, it's an account of a nonprofit NGO and most of our data was in those folders.
Thanks in advance,
Hila

Hey Kodesh Vechol, let's jump right into this!
Would you be able to let me know more in regards to the email you received?
If you have any screenshots of it, feel free to send them over in order for me to have a visual too. Just make sure to redact any personal info shown there.
Was the deleted content shared by any chance? Also, can you find it when checking your sharing tab online, or your events page?
Keep me posted, and we'll take it from there!

Thanks for the added info Kodesh Vechol!
Based on this email, it seems that some content that was shared with you belonged to a Dropbox team that has since been permanently deleted. As a result, the content in the shared folder has also been permanently removed.
Please keep in mind that the initial email must have been sent days prior to the deletion, in order to inform you that the content would be deleted 14 days after notification.
Now, due to data security and privacy reasons, we’re unable to restore access to this content. If you still need access, I'd recommend reaching out directly to the owner or the person who initially shared the folder with you.
With the above in mind, even though I'd love to be able to help more, I'm afraid that my hands are tied.
That said, I'll be right here if there's something else we can check in the meantime.

Hi Megan,
Thanks again for the quick reply!!
How can I find out who's the Dropbox team member that shared the content with me?
I thought that I was the owner of those folders. - Megan10 days ago

Hey Kodesh Vechol!
I suggest going through any old emails that you have received, in order to see if you can locate the invitation that way.
Alternatively, if you recall any of the members of this shared folder, you might want to reach out to them. - Kodesh Vechol3 days agoNew member | Level 2
Hi,
I reached out to everyone we can recall, but they can't find it.
Several weeks ago, I removed an old device that hadn't been connected to the account since 2017 to connect a new one. Could that be the reason the folders were deleted?

Hey Kodesh Vechol!
Based on the info you shared with me earlier, it doesn't sound like this could be the reason.
We're talking about some content that was shared with you that belonged to a Dropbox team, which has later on been deleted.

Hello Megan , I was contacted by Kodesh Vechol regarding the situation. It seems I might be the owner of the directory but I can't seem to find any way to restore the old directory. How can I approach this situation and try to recover the old files?

Hey haashaas, welcome to our Community!
Based on the screenshot that Kodesh Vechol attached here, the removed shared folder was owned by a Dropbox team. So, just to make sure we're on the same page, were you part of the team in question?
Also, can you check and let me know if you received a similar email too? - haashaas2 days agoNew member | Level 2
Thank you for your response.
It seems that I have received the same mail on May 22nd as I was a part of KodeshVechol team, but didn't give it much thought.
