Why do archived files still take up Dropbox storage on our team?

Hi Folks -

I'm confused about Dropbox Archiving...

Got an e-mail a couple months ago that there was a (new?) archiving feature available so went through the effort with my team of organizing our old files and archiving ~2TB.  Still not clear but it seems this is still counting against my storage quota, is that right?  Previous posts to this community don't seem conclusive.

If this still counts against our primary quota, I guess I don't understand the point of archiving?   Why would I go through the steps to archive if not to get them off my team's folders?

Anyone have any insight?

John

The thing is, I wouldn't expect it to apply to all my team members' quotas since none of them can access the data.   It's already funny how DropBox charges storage space multiplied by team members.  Yes, it takes storage space but not storage space * team members.

Anyway, what's the point of archiving if not to 'clear up' space in any way?   Just to make it harder to retrieve?

    Organization, decluttering.
