Bulk update file versions

Hi, can someone help me to understand if Dropbox is suitable for my use case?

1. I need a way of versioning PDF files without changing the download link. I think this is standard functionality in Dropbox, however I have over 1000 price list PDF files in different languages that are updated frequently, and I'm trying to find a way to avoid manually updating each file version. It would be troublesome to update each file version one by one. Is there a way of bulk uploading new file versions from a CSV or something along those lines with the original download link remaining constant?

Please let me know if any of this needs clarifying.

Many thanks,

Chris

Hi chipmedia, thanks for messaging the Community!

Generally, when a file is uploaded directly to the site in the same location as the previous one with the link, the link remains the same.

If the file is updated in the Dropbox folder, and the file syncs to the site, the link could remain, depending on how the file is saved.

If you have any further queries, feel free to message back.

    Hi Jay,

Thanks for your reply. Once I have uploaded all the files, is there a way to bulk upload and replace the files with a new version? I'm trying to avoid having to manually update files one by one.

    Thanks

There are a few methods to upload files, however, only uploading directly to the site itself guarantees that the shared link remains intact.

If all the files are in the same folder, you could technically upload all the files you need into that folder, and this will update the file and keep their shared links.

    Hello Jay

I havent found out how I can bulk upload multiple files and replace the original/update the versions.

I am working primarily with pictures.

If I have a folder 1.jpg 2.jpg 3.jpg and i edit all 3 pictures and re-upload them, instead of adding V2 of each, its uploading these files again and i end up with 6 files.

Is this expeceted behaviour. Can I change this somehow?

If I need to upload v2 one by one instead of updating the whole folder its really time consuming

Hi amzp, if you're uploading images to the same location, with the exact same name directly to the Dropbox site, then there shouldn't be any duplicates, since it would overwrite the original.

Are you using the Dropbox desktop application instead, or another method of uploading files?
