Disable sync status icons & context menu injection

These sync status icons Dropbox app is generating while running, and forcibly, slowly serving them to Explorer without asking, are annoying. The context menu options, injected only when Dropbox app is running, are even more annoying.

Status icons are significantly slowing down Explorer, and the context menu distortion messes with muscle memory. I'm catching myself turning off Dropbox entirely to avoid these, at which point it makes me consider if I shouldn't just switch to pCloud or something.

How to turn them off? A toggle, a registry key, hex editing the Dropbox binary, I don't care. I need a way.

For reference, pCloud:

Unfortunately there is no way to do this.

There was a recent post about this you can see here.

And a thread asking for upvotes etc. within the suggestions board here.

Thanks, I didn't see a thread about status icons so I created one, "Add toggle to disable status icons".

And I guess I'm getting lifetime pCloud and be done with it...

There was one already - I linked to it. Sadly making multiple ones just means that they don't get the upvotes needed

I understand, but the linked suggestion refers to the context menu only. The status icons are distinct and quite frankly significantly more annoying.

As Mark suggested, we recommend upvoting the idea he posted with a comment to explain the other option you want changed.
