How can I stop people from editing files through my shared link?

I have a link intended to allow any one to view or download but NOT to edit. However it allows strangers to edit. I want to keep the link but stop others editing. Is that possible? If so how?

Hey Peter Newland, thanks for reaching out to us.

If the shared link that was created, was a "can edit" link, then users would be able to edit files through that link.

You'll need to create a "view-only" link instead, so that they'll only be able to view and download the files.

You can find the steps for that here.

Let me know how it goes.

Thanks Hannah, but my link is widespread in public places where I can't change it and where I want anyone to have view and download access but not editing access.

Hey Peter Newland, I’m afraid that, in this case, a new shared link with view-only access would need to be created instead. After that, you'd also need to delete the old link with the edit permissions.
