How can I sync the files I see on the browser with my Mac desktop app?

How can I sync files that are on Dropbox and viewable in a browser with a new Mac Mini running the latest Mac OS and latest Dropbox desktop app? If I try to download the files it comes up with a conflict message. I’m sure it used to be possible to just select what you wanted synced at it would do it, but not with the latest version.

  • Thanks for your post, cpatmore.

In general, files should sync automatically from your web account to your Dropbox desktop app and vice versa.

If you’re not seeing entire folders on your desktop app, it could be because you’ve used selective sync on your computer. If that's the case, you should be able to select your folders once again (with the steps provided in the page I linked above), and sync them locally on your computer.

If your files/folders have been made online-only though, you should be able to right-click on them in your local Dropbox folder instead and choose “Make available offline”.

Let me know if that helps or if there’s something else going on.

Thank you. I knew it would be simple once I was pointed in the right direction.
