How to receive large files (around 120 GB) from a client with a free, Basic Dropbox account?

Hello everyone,

I need to receive about 120 GB of files from a client via Dropbox. However, I suspect the client might only have a free Dropbox account—or maybe doesn’t have one at all. I know that using the “File Request” feature only allows uploads up to 2 GB per request.

Could anyone advise the best way to receive such a large amount of data smoothly under these limitations?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Hey SAHERNAJI, welcome to our Community!

What is the plan that you're using on your end? Is it safe to assume you're using either our Plus, or Family plan since you mentioned the 2GB limit when using file requests?

If that's the case then the Basic user cannot upload a 120 GB file to your Dropbox via file request or shared link due to plan’s limitations.

Keep in mind that to receive such a large file, you would either need to upgrade to a Dropbox Professional or higher plan, or use a different file transfer method outside of Dropbox.

Alternatively the client could also try upgrading to a paid plan, and that way you could use a shared folder.

If you have any questions, don't hesitate to let me know!

    Hi Sahernaji,

    • Customers on Dropbox Professional, Essentials, Business, Business Plus, Standard, Advanced, and Enterprise can accept files up to 250 GB in size.
    • Anyone can send a file to you, whether they have a Dropbox account or not.
    • You can get the Professional plan 3TB for this type of request.
    • You can click this link to get started with your plan and receive the 120GB file you need from your client : http://www.dropbox.com/buy/professional

    Thank you :)
