Live changes and notifications with a shared Dropbox folder.

I have the free Dropbox account.  I wanted to share a folder with view permission only.  I thought sharing a folder would notify them anytime I changed the files in that folder.

Unfortunately, the invitation they received required a Dropbox account.  There was no link to the folder.  I don't want a link; I want them to get notified if I change a file in the folder so they can view the changes.

Am I missing something or are these real restrictions?

Thanks

  • Hey Reg81, let's jump right into this!

In order for someone to add, and view a shared folder they'd need a Dropbox account indeed.

Essentially the shared folder gets added to their account too, so they'd also need to have the space to add it.

Do the people you shared your folder with have a Dropbox account? Also, just to make sure we're on the same page here, did you use these steps when sharing it with them?

Let me know more, and we'll take it from there!

Thanks for the clarification.  They don’t have a Dropbox account, nor do they want one.

I’ll try something else.  Thanks again.
