The shared link I've created shows an older folder name instead of the current one.

Hello -

I'm sharing a link for a folder, which includes all of the right files. However, the title of the folder is not accurate when sent by shared link.

The folder name is accurate in DropBox, but when I share the link, an old folder name appears instead.  Where can I update that for the shared link to reflect the current name of the folder?

Example: In DropBox it says "2025" and when I share the link the folder they view says "2024"... which makes them think it is out of date/incorrect.

Hey jeffwsears! Thanks for posting on our forum today and welcome aboard.

I’d like to ask you a few more details, just so that we can investigate this further.

First off, was the shared link created before the name of the folder was updated to include “2025” in the title?

Is there any chance at all you have another folder saved on your Dropbox account that has “2024” in its name instead and the shared link points to that one instead? You can also double check this by using the search bar on your Dropbox account online.

Let me know what you find.

Hello Nancy - thanks for the reply.

The original name of the folder was 2024 <title of folder>.  We updated files and materials in the folder for 2025, and renamed the folder 2025 <title of folder>.

We created the original "view only" link in 2024. We've since renamed the folder and the content within the folder.  All files and folders inside the folder appear updated, but the title of the folder does not when using the view link (even if copied after the name change).

Perhaps the share link takes the folder name at the time of original creation and doesn't change that... even if the link is copied again after the folder rename? As this link is already been shared with others, I can't easily cancel the link and create a new shared link without disconnecting access to multiple stakeholders.

It is just embarrassing to have all of our 2025 materials in a folder still displaying as 2024 (causing confusion and double checks).

Thats correct I'm afraid. Once a folder is created and links created it retains that original name. The same goes for Shared folders with edit rights.

The only way to change it is either a new folder with a new link OR trying to delete the old link and creating a new link on it (not 100% sure that would work, however).

Hey jeffwsears! I was also able to reproduce this in the meantime (using the new shared link structure).

My experience was that, if a folder is also shared (this way) and you create a shared link to it on top of that, the name of the folder won’t change indeed (if you rename it in the meantime).

If a folder is personal though, and you create a shared link to it after that, then the name of the folder gets automatically updated without even the need to delete and re-create the link first.

Let me know, if you’re having a different experience though.
