Dropbox Basic plan stuck at 77GB storage usage and I can’t upload to shared folder
Hi Dropbox team,
I’ve recently dropped back to the free plan, and my storage usage is showing 77GB, even though I’ve removed all personal files and only have access to a shared folder that’s owned by someone else.
I’ve also checked the “Deleted Files” section and cleared everything out, but my storage usage still says 77GB. Now I can’t even upload a 1MB file to the shared folder I use with my office.
Could someone please manually recalculate my storage usage or advise how to fix this? I need access to the shared folder for work and I’m stuck at 0 bytes of available storage.
Thanks in advance!
I see, thanks for the clarification there Alpha _p - much appreciated.
In that case, you should be able to delete your backups to free up some space. Just navigate to your backups page and delete them from there.
I hope this helps!

Hi there Alpha _p - sorry to hear you're having issues with this.
Please note that shared folders use space in each member’s account, not just the owner's. You should be able to verify this by taking a look at your account's plan tab.
In that case, you can use file requests and shared links instead.
Let me know if you have any follow up questions.

Thanks for your reply, but the issue is not the shared folder — it’s that my storage is completely filled by an old backup (77.7GB).
As you can see in the attached screenshot, these backup files are using up my entire quota, but I can no longer see or manage them since downgrading to the free plan.
I can’t delete these backups because they don’t appear in my regular file view or anywhere else. Could you please purge them
?
Thanks for your help!
