Dropbox says my account is full, but I'm only using 8 out of 18GB.
Hi,
I have a free account with Dropbox for many years and have earned 18 GB of space by referring others over the years.
Currently Dropbox has locked my account saying it is Full, and to Upgrade to get more space.
However I am only using 8 GB of space.
I tried emailing Dropbox Support, but they won’t respond as I only have a free account.
Does anybody know how to fix this?
Best Wishes,
Dave
Hi Megan
I deleted the folders online from Dropbox in the incognito window. I then closed my desktop and waited a couple of hours. Now when I go back in, the correct usage seems to be showing.
Problem solved.
Thank you all for your prompt replies and help with this!
Best Wishes,
Dave

Hi DaveBlue534! Welcome to our Community.
Have you checked your Backups page here to make sure there are no backups taking up the extra space on your Dropbox account?
Other than that, I’d also suggest looking at your Shared tab here; you may be part of a shared folder that’s taking up your space instead.
If none of the above suggestions help though, I’d like you to send me a screenshot of what you see on your Plan tab.
Ping me, once you have more updates.

Hi Nancy,
Thank you for your prompt and very helpful reply. I don't have any backups, but when I clicked on the Shared tab link you provided, I saw many folders that I had deleted from dropbox years ago. So I right clicked on each and removed access. I also clicked on the link to Price Plan you provided and that showed more files under Regular files... so I deleted many folders there too.
I wonder whether I am deleting folders in the correct way?
From my Windows 10 PC, in Windows Explorer, I right-click on folders within the Dropbox top-level folder and 'delete' from there.
Do I need to do something else to somehow remove a 'shared copy' or something?
Now when I click on my Plan tab I see
Using 19.1 GB of 18.25 GB
Is there some way, I can list the files (or folders) and see the size of each... so I can focus on the large files/folders to delete them?
Best Wishes,
Dave

Thanks Rich,
When I view all the folders, and visually count up the files sizes used, it only comes to approx 8 GB but My Plan tab says I am using 18.2 GB.
I wonder is there a time delay from deleting folders... for the space to be deleted.
Nancy do you have any more suggestions what might be using up space in my account?
Best Wishes,
Dave

Hey Dave! Can you post a screenshot showing the size of the folders/files on your Dropbox account perhaps? It’d definitely help to have a visual and go from there.

Thanks Nancy
Please see screenshot below.
On top of the screen, there are 5 folders shown with images.
The second one is titled "Burren Yoga Kanta Oct 2014" and shows photos in that folder in the image.
However I deleted that folder over an hour ago.
But when I scroll down the page, (about 20 folders from the bottom) I can see that same folder listed... and no size showing.
I wonder whether it was actually deleted... and why is it showing at the top of the page.

Hey DaveBlue534, thanks for the screenshot!
Can you login to your account from a different browser or from a private browsing window and let us know if you see the same behavior?

Hey Hannah
I logged in using an Incognito window and still see the same thing.
Folders that I have previously deleted are still showing on the top of the screen.
Within the incognito window, I have selected many folders to delete them.
But it is still saying that I am using 18 GB of file space.
Is there some way that a Dropbox support person could take a look at my account to see what the problem is?
Best Wishes,
Dave

Hey DaveBlue534, thanks for the info you've provided so far!
One more question: did you delete these folders online, or using the app locally on your device?
Also, does your plan page also report the same allocated quota?
