Referral shows as ineligible. What can I do?

A coworker sent me a referral. I have a brand new laptop and a new dropbox account. I followed the link in my email and signed up but the referrals page says ineligible. I searched and it suggested I needed to be on a different network, I tried connecting to my VPN and restarted dropbox but no luck. How can I fix this so that my coworker and I get our referral bonus space?

    Sorry to revive an old thread but I'm having the same issue. Just set up my new HP laptop with a new dropbox account and I only have 2gb. I used the hp included installer from the "dropbox promotion" link. I'm wondering if it's because I initially set up the account as a business account, it asked how I'd use dropbox and I chose biz but then it created a team and a bunch of stuff I didn't want to I canceled the trial but now I only have 2gb. How can I fix and get my promotion space?

    When I was creating the account it asked if I would use it for personal or biz use, I chose biz not realizing that it would sign me up for a business trial. Could that be the issue? Following the link in the referral email now just sends me to https://www.dropbox.com/space-upgrade
