Storage alert says I'm about to stop syncing but I have enough space

Hi there

I recently cancelled my paid plan as I've switched to another storage option that serves me just fine. Over the years I gained more Dropbox storage through referrals etc, so my total storage is showing 10.13GB since I cancelled my plan. Plenty for my needs as all that is on Dropbox is a shared folder managed by a colleague.

However, I'm now getting alerts in the app that I'm almost out of storage and that even 'one more file' might break everything. Is this just marketing hype or something I need to be concerned about? The latest alert is an email that says:

Notice: Your files are about to stop syncing, ****

Here's access to up to 3 TB (3,000 GB) of space.

There's limited space available in your Dropbox. Even adding just one more file might stop your account from syncing and being able to access them when you need to

Yet when I go into my account settings on the top right of the Dropbox web app it confirms that I have 10.13GB. The shared folder takes about 8GB so I comfortably have space to spare.

So do I just have to put up with annoying emails from Dropbox pushing me back onto paid plans now that I'm back to a free plan, or is there a danger of any consequences?

Thanks!

Trishy

  • Hey Trishy, thanks for your post.

As long as the email address you're getting these alerts to and the email address associated with the Dropbox account you're signed into is the same, you can simply ignore these emails.

I'm saying that in case the email addresses are different, which would mean that you have another Dropbox account.

If they're the same and you see in your account settings that you have enough space, you should be good to ignore the emails.

Thanks for your feedback though, and if you have any questions, let us know.

    Hi Hannah

Thank you for the clarification. Yes, I only have one Dropbox account so I will ignore the emails. However, if there is a way to give feedback it would be to not send these emails with alarming titles when users have plenty of space.

    Thank you

    Trishy
