Allow a href (local) and H1/H2 tags in forum posting?

Subject: Forum Editor – Frustrating HTML Restrictions

Hello, me again!

I tried posting an idea for the markup/screenshot feature, but ran into multiple restrictions in the forum editor. I kept getting this annoying error:

Content not published (links to forum entries, should be allowed!)
Your post contains invalid HTML. Remove the following invalid tags before publishing: a, a (class), a (data-lia-auto-title), a (data-lia-auto-title-active)

And then again:

Content not published
Your post contains invalid HTML. Remove the following invalid tags before publishing: span (data-testid)

And most frustrating of all:

Content not published
Your post contains invalid HTML. Remove the following invalid tags before publishing: h1

This makes it really hard to write a structured post. Could you please either allow standard HTML tags (like headers (h1/h2) and a href links), or remove the formatting/link buttons from the editor if they cause errors?

Thanks,
Alex

You don't need to use a tags (href). Just paste your link into the post, or use the Link option in the toolbar, and the forum software will insert it as a clickable link.

Hi Harveyhase68! Thanks for getting involved on the community and for sharing your thoughts. I'm a developer here on the Dropbox Community, and happy to give more info on this.

Using HTML on posts is restricted on the community and only allowed for our Superusers and staff members. This is for security reasons, however I do understand that it would be frustrating for power users.

I'll talk to my team about potentially loosening the restrictions on HTML in posts for higher level users. In the meantime, if you have more suggestions or feedback I'd love it hear it 😊 Thanks!

    Hello Rich,

I think you don't understand, the toobar, I click on link symbol button, and insert a link, but then when I click on "send" then the error message occur?

The same when I click on Heading H1 combobox and so on, of course, I do not write myself <a href into the posting or <H1 and so on... I guess, the toolbar inserts a html code as formatting in my posting, which he self marks as error?!

Try it yourself, start a new posting, mark a text and select Heading H1, or insert a link with the toolbar button, send and see yourself?! Of course do not write <H1 or something, that is not allowed and I would'nt allow it too!!

    yours

It may help to post a screenshot or mini video of it if you can as I can post links without issue but that could be my SU status

I get the same sort of error as Harveyhase68, e.g. when trying to use the link tool in the menu bar at the bottom of the composition window today:

    "Content Not Published
Your post contains invalid HTML. Remove the following invalid tags before publishing: a, a (class), li-user, span"

If you're not going to allow ordinary users to use the link tool because they're not allowed to include HTML, as Sheena implies, the tool shouldn't appear in the menu bar.

And based on my experience with this post, the same applies to the quote tool and the code tool.

Mark:  it may be easiest for you to see the problem if you create a new account and try using the link, code and quote tools.

Wow!  I can't even use italics.  That's getting pretty restrictive.
