Authentication of browser within the Dropbox desktop application installation fails on Windows

I am a Windows 10 user. When I install the latest version of Dropbox, it needs authentication from the browser. I am able to login to dropbox, the webpage shows "Login Success". But when I click the blue button ("Open Dropbox"), a prompt message appears. It says "the web site is attempting to open URL:dropbox-client protocol. When i click open, nothing happens.

I have already cleared the cache of the browser. I have also tried different browser like Edge, IE, Chrome. The same issue happens. What can I do. Please help. Thank you.

Hi rouser, thanks for bringing this to our attention.

Do you have any proxy, VPN, firewall, security software, or even ISP/router settings that could be restricting traffic to the following Dropbox domains?

This will help me to assist further!

Thanks for the reply. I don't have any setting restrcting traffic to the dropbox domains. It seems that the problem is caused by the browser fails to send the authentication signal back to my dropbox program. How can I fix it?

Have you tried rebooting your computer and internet router since you first noticed this rouser ?

If you did and this persists, can you maybe try another network as a test?

Also, did you install the desktop app with admin privileges in the first place?
