Can I set Dropbox to "sign me out when I leave" the website?

At the moment, if I leave, it seems to keep me signed in, which is, for me, an unnecessary security risk.  So can I set it to sign me out automatically when I leave?

    Hi Mike

Sign you out from what and where?

The software you install has no sign out option. It is designed to be installed on a personal user profile so you secure that account which stops people accessing Dropbox. There is no way to change this

I don't remember "installing" any software?  I don't think I know enough to understand what you are saying. When I enter Dropbox, I have to sign in. So presumably just before leaving Dropbox I can sign out, if I remember to, so why can this not be a setting for automatic sign-out in Dropbox?

    Thanks,

    Mike

Hey mike160304, can you clarify where you'd like to sign out from?

Are you referring to the Dropbox desktop app, the mobile app or perhaps the website?

In any case, there's no option to automatically sign out of any of those platforms, but we appreciate your feedback!

You can suggest it via this link. However, it isn't a default or editable setting.

You can also  cancel and sign out of sessions via your Account page.

Thanks - Website, from my Windows 11 Home laptop. It seems that I can sign out manually, maybe I just have to continue doing that.

Thanks, yes, from my Windows 11 Home laptop, I can sign out of the Dropbox Website manually, but I understand your comment that I cannot set it to sign out automatically.

Are there advantages in getting the Dropbox App on Windows 11 Home? I think I went round this particular block a few years ago, but I never went for the automatic-back-up for-everything story. Right now my pics back up to Google Photos, Free, and major documents go to my external hard drive.

I am here on the Dropbox Website, Basic 2 GB, to look at the Dropbox Passwords as a possibility for me, together with an assorted collection of Notepad Notes, very tiny files, so 2 GB is quite a lot of space for these purposes.

    Thanks,

    Mike

    Thanks for the clarification, mike160304.

The Dropbox desktop app is actually our preferred method of uploading files and it doesn't have any size limits etc.

You don't need to back your desktop files up, you can simply sync the files you need as you already do.

You can see more info about it here.

    I hope this helps!

    Thanks, 2 points:

    FIRST:

    I.  I don't want all the "Automatics". I mainly back up files I want to keep to my External Hard Drive, many of my files are temporary and I do not want to back them up. I am not a business and "Traceability" is of no interest to me.

    2.  I would be happier to avoid the App and do my limited back-up work via your website, if that is possible????

    3.  Within my free Dropbox Basic I also want to see what Dropbox Passwords does, I might or might not want to use it.  Passwords are not megabyte-hungry and I do all my passwords at the moment on a 32GB Flash Drive, manually, and there are loads of unused space

    4.  I guess I can do Dropbox Passwords on your website, too????

    SECOND:

    1.  My first question here was about "Automatic Log-Off if I leave". This seems to me to be an obvious option. Why would I want to leave my Dropbox contents open to the world?

    2.  I don't have Bank Apps either, I go to the Banks' websites.  If I hang around, they log me off.  If I leave, they log me off.  I would like to see this as an option in Dropbox.  But when I asked the question, eyebrows were raised, as if it were a stupid idea? Is it, really.

    Thanks,

    Mike

I have got an email telling me to "Mark as Solution" but no, there are questions unanswered, especially in my last message.

I have used the "Link" to pass my idea, as a useful option, to be considered.   I don't know whether I am supposed to get an answer, or whether anything is likely to happen.

I asked about Dropbox Passwords, but I have since read some negative reviews which basically said that Passwords was launched too  early, before being tidied up, etc. and that the writers had gone back to other similar programs.

What do users think of it now, is Passwords nicely usable yet?  Are teething troubles worked out, or do they just sit there?

Uncheck the Remember Me option when signing in, and you'll be signed out as soon as you close the browser window.
