I tried deleting the Dropbox app, but it also started deleting my Dropbox files.
Hello. I cannot seem to figure out what is happening. I was trying to upload/download/move files yesterday and it was going extremely slow. A pop-up informed me that "if things were uploading slowly, install the app on your computer to upload faster." So I did that and now it is EATING UP all my storage on my computer to the point where I cannot open or save anything. I tried deleting it, but then it appeared to be deleting everything in my account so I panicked and cancelled the deletion. Please help.

Thanks for posting here, Rebeccahelp. Let’s have a look into this.
To my understanding, you were initially uploading/downloading files via the Dropbox website and you installed the desktop app after that to speed up the process. Is this correct?
In general, if you sign in to the desktop app on your device, it’ll create a local Dropbox folder where your Dropbox files/folders are synced, so it’s natural for them to take up space from your hard drive, too. If you don’t want that to happen, you can either use selective sync, or make your files online-only instead.
When saying you tried deleting the app, can you clarify the exact steps that you took? Did you delete the files from your local Dropbox folder perhaps, which would also delete them from your Dropbox account online? How did you stop the deletion after that?
Let me know more details, and we’ll go from there.
